A human adult or animal is a creature that has developed to the fullest extent. For humans an adult's term has significance that is shaped by social and legal concepts. In contrast to a person who is not considered an adult or "minor" an legal adult has attained majority, that makes them independent, capable, and responsible. The term "major" may be applied to them. The age when a child becomes an adult legally is 18, however, the definition of"legal maturity" may differ based on the legal or country system as well as the psychological condition of the child.

Adulthood is the time that an individual has reached maturation in both physical and mental development. The majority of people believe that adulthood starts at 20 years or greater. Then, after middle age (starting about 40 years old) is the time to reach the age of old age (around the age of 60). The three phases of adulthood are the early years (from the mid 30s until late 60s) and middle adulthood, from mid-30s until late-60s and then later adulthood (mid-60s up to end of life). When we reach early adulthood the body is at the fullest physical maturation. But, the height and our weight can rise. The physical abilities of our bodies are at their peak when we are young adults. It includes strength of muscles, reflex time, sensors, and the heart's function.
